July 2020

Hey foodie friends!

It’s been a little while since I’ve touched base with you guys. June got away from me and before I knew it, I was about to start writing a monthly post before I realized it was already mid-June! Truthfully, I needed a cool-down from looking at a screen so intensely. For someone who only has a balcony as “outdoor” space, I’ve been spending majority of June sitting outside whenever I can — either working away on a laptop, doing a bit of reading, or having a sip ‘n’ chat with the bf on the balcony after dinner.

I will say, I’m looking forward to July for so many reasons.

It’s Canada Day on July 1st — I feel like a lot of Canadians resort to BBQing, sipping on craft brews, and spending it with loved ones at a cottage somewhere and man, I’d give my left-arm for a cottage invite right about now. As it stands, we’re going to be taking full advantage of the BBQ this month .. and probably till the end of September if we’re being realistic.

Expect to see some grilled recipes, perfect summer sides to go with, and a few tributes to Canada on the blog this month!!

It’s my birthday month and I’m turning 24 (holy smokes). I don’t tend to go crazy on my birthday, but we always go to a restaurant of my choice and we spluuurge on good food and wine. This year, I’m looking forward to ordering-in from a local Ottawa restaurant since their pre-covid and mid-quarantine menu has been on my radar for many months now. I went for brunch once and was completely blown away, so I thought the birthday festivities was a perfect time to treat yo’self.

There are definite plans for myself and my girlfriends to meet up for a patio drink in the next few weeks or so. Last time we were able to be together was for a Galentine’s Day party which was months ago and we are long overdue on celebrating a few birthdays and graduations. A bottle of rosé is calling our names.

Lastly, summer means summer vacation — the end of July brings a much-needed vacation off of work. I haven’t been able to take a break in the summer for YEARS, and although I’m not travelling abroad, I’ll be spending some quality time with my brother travelling from Ottawa to London, ON and back again. We plan to make a few brewery pit stops, discover fun activities around our two cities, and eat well with our SO’s and fave furry companion.

I’m sure there’s more that will pop up in the month of July, but what I know for sure is that there will be some great food to enjoy along the way.

As always, cheers and good eats guys. Let’s have a great summer!!
